“According to Governing.com, 29 states and the District of Columbia have or will soon have laws legalizing marijuana in some form. Use of recreational marijuana is legal in eight states. As its popularity has grown, so have profits. In 2016, sales of legal marijuana in North America totaled $6.7 billion — an increase of more than 30 percent — according to a report from Arcview Market Research. The number is projected to rise to $20.2 billion by 2021.”
So, now everyone is concerned about which side of this huge issue President elect Trump will fall on. Many in his cabinet have a history of coming from the stuffy conservative position that government should somehow be the “legislator of morality”…should rule over people’s sex lives, where they put their money, and which foods and drugs are right and wrong for everyone in this huge country.
It has been our observation that legislation of morality was never part of the USA constitution, yet modern day government continues to make laws over some of the most miniscule issues of the day. The federalists now want to decide on GLBT rights when it comes to marriage and inheritance. They want to limit you from using YOUR money in the bank for gambling, pornagraphy (whatever their definition may be), whether a woman can get an abortion, and of course for the last 70+ years specifically telling us it is illegal to grow, use or distribute a “weed”…named Cannabis. Cannabis…which has been proven to help or cure so many of today’s contemporary diseases. Cannabis… which is not addictive like sugar, corn fructose, nicotine or alcohol…all of which continues to be approved by the FDA (Food & Drug Administration), DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) and the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm agency). Imagine that…three huge federal agencies paid for by the American taxpayer who all strive to control that which they have no constitutional mandate to control.
Now, there is no doubt that overdoing drugs or substances of any kind can be lethal and is not to be advised. People have drowned in a cup full of water before. Does that mean we legislate and control water for that reason? Tens of thousands of Americans are killed every year from mis diagnosis and overdosing on legal statin drugs of all kinds, especially the highly addictive ones like morphine, percodan, and all the other highly addictive drugs our world’s pharmaceuticals push to every streetcorner in America that has a Walgreens, CVC or other drug store. Yes, all these substances, including cigarettes and alcohol, are highly addictive and kill more each year than traffic accidents do…yet they are legal and highly taxed.
Meanwhile, a simple yet complex weed like Cannabis is on the Federal Government’s list of prohibited products for production or consumption in the USA. This product that has so many proven benefits when taken in right doses and types and has saved many lives…FORBIDDEN. Yes, the USA government has spent over $1 Trillion USD of taxpayers money in the years since Ronald Reagan backed his wife Nancy’s “war on drugs” and “Just say No” campaigns. Since that time, more lies and disinformation have been spread by the government on Marijuana than just about any other issue they have lied about, including “Watergate” and “WMDs in Iraq”.
A few more details from drugpolicy.org …
- Number of people arrested for a marijuana law violation in 2015: 643,121
- Number of people in the U.S. who died from a drug overdose in 2015: 52,404 (not one from Marijuana)
- More than 250,000 Americans die each year from medical malpractice and legal drug overdoses…yet those drugs are not on the prohibition list. Why?
- Number of people killed in Mexico’s drug war since 2006: 100,000+…just fighting over who can produce the “illegal” drugs that continue to be so readily available in every town in America.
While there is no doubt Mr. Trump is a known “tee-totaller” and has historically been anti-drug along with the conservatives…we now hope he will act on fair and balanced information to take hemp/cannabis/marijana off the schedule 1 list. Let the 30+ states who have legalized it in one form or another continue to control and tax this popular and healthy substance. Instead of spending needlessly for a war few citizens have signed up for…let the new majority that now understand the power of Cannibis as a product and market to put the cartels and their government protectors out of business once and for all.
This simple act alone (legalizing Marijuana) could reduce the cost of American healthcare overall by the Billions while freeing millions of regular Americans who have been unconstitutionally denied their rights to consume a natural, organic herb that abounds throughout the world.
That alone will help make America “great again”.
